Morris Trucking had a 6-4 season record in adult co-ed softball for the Recreation League, but came out on top when the league tournament ended in Wellington (Colorado) on Aug. 29.
Likewise, Twinn Peaks Welding took second place in the tournament after ending the season with a 1-7 record. The team, however, nearly missed the tourney for lack of female players. It took lots of calls to convince some ladies to join the team on short notice, but the guys succeeded.
Morris Trucking conquered Twinn Peaks in the final game, 14-8, for first-place honors.
Staying true to form, The Buckeyes wrapped up the tournament with a perfect season of 0 wins and 10 losses. For the first time, the Wellington Recreation program gave out a team sportsmanship award in recognition of a great attitude.
“They never whined or complained and always seemed to be having fun,” said the town’s recreation coordinator, Jake Raynolds.
Joe’s Upholstery placed third in the tournament, following a 9-1 record for the season.
Gila Monsters placed fourth, following a 7-2 season record.
The Leisure League held its tournament on Aug. 8.
