Winning artwork by Nevada Duncan, sixth grade Wellington Middle School

The 2010 edition of the Wellington (Colorado) Area Directory is nearing completion.

The cover artwork for the upcoming book will feature a drawing of mascots representing Wellington schools. Nevada Duncan, a sixth-grader from the Waverly area, won the artwork contest and was awarded $100 by C3 of Wellington, a group producing the phone book as a fund-raiser for special programs at Wellington Middle School, Rice Elementary and Eyestone Elementary.

Nevada said he chose the mascot theme — an eagle, a raptor and a cougar — because he thinks of school when he thinks of Wellington. He’s been drawing since he was about 4 years old, he said, and he was very surprised to win the contest.

C3 also selected three pieces of artwork for honorable mention. They will appear inside the directory.

There is still time to get a business or residential listing in the directory, according to CT Hart, a member of the production team. Information or inquiries should be directed to 568-7778 or thewellingtondirectory@gmail.com.
